The Mardi Gras King Cake!

Well... I wish I had more pictures of King Cakes

but my computer really loves King Cakes too.
When I turned my back... he ATE the pictures!

It is a simple little pastry by nature... just a breakfast roll really. But something happens to it right after the first of every new year.

This unassuming roll gets all pumped up and excited and then takes on a life of its own! It gets big, and round, and all dressed up with beautiful colored frostings and sprinkles over the top! Sometimes, when the feeling strikes it's fancy you'll find'em with creme cheese or apple filling! Or cherry, peach, lemon or strawberry filling... or... aaahhhh!

I've gotta' get to the bakery before they close... N-O-W!
